The legislation of Ukraine establishes clear age limits for the right to drive various types of vehicles. According to the information from the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the lowest age limit is set for two-wheeled vehicles - 16 years. Thus, teenagers aged 16 and older can ride mopeds and motorcycles. To get behind the wheel of a passenger car or truck, one must wait until adulthood. Driving a vehicle with a heavy trailer becomes possible at 19 years, while buses are available only to drivers aged 21 and older.
- Mopeds and motorcycles - available from 16 years old
- Passenger cars and ATVs (Category B), as well as trucks up to 7.5 tons (Category C) - from 18 years old
- Vehicles with heavy trailers (Categories BE and CE) - from 19 years old
- Buses and minibuses - from 21 years old
Penalties and Requirements for Driving Licenses
Failure to comply with age requirements entails significant penalties. If a person drives without proper documents or allows a child under 16 years to drive, this may lead to a fine of 3,400 hryvnias. To obtain a driving license, one must successfully pass theoretical and practical exams in the service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It should be noted that licenses will not be issued to those who have not reached the established age for a specific category.
Currently, in Ukraine, fines have been strengthened for drivers who operate a vehicle without the appropriate category or while being deprived of their rights. A repeated violation may result in a fine of 40,800 hryvnias and deprivation of rights for 7 years.
