According to Главком: Svitlana Babiichuk, the widow of the late Ukrainian musician Andriy Kuzmenko (known as Kuzma Skryabin), has disclosed that the song 'Champagne Eyes' was originally composed for her when she was young. The track gained widespread popularity following Kuzmenko's tragic death in a car accident on February 2, 2015, in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The couple shared 21 years of marriage, a union often celebrated as a powerful testament to enduring love. Andriy Kuzmenko is survived by their daughter, Barbara; his mother has also passed away, adding another layer of loss to the family.
Babiichuk shared her memories of their life together, stating:
“Probably it's 'Champagne Eyes.' It was written for me when I was very young, but it only became popular after Andriy was gone.” - Svitlana Babiichuk
The Emotional Depth of Their Bond
She also reflected on the intense, unforgettable moments that defined their relationship. “I feel like my whole life has been crazy-even now, he hasn’t given me peace. He left and bestowed this enormous treasure: songs, books, and everything else. From start to finish, it was a wildly passionate life shared between two fires,” Babiichuk added. Her words highlight not only the length of their time together but also the profound emotional connection they shared. The song 'Champagne Eyes' has become a lasting symbol of their love and a tribute to Andriy Kuzmenko, who left an indelible mark on Ukrainian music.
