This announcement marks a significant return to one of the most beloved RPGs of the last decade.
Details on the DLC and System Requirement Changes
Songs of the Past will launch 12 years after the original game's release and 11 years after the previous DLC, Blood and Wine. More story details are promised for late summer 2026. The announcement came a day ahead of a planned livestream, following a leak in CDPR's own game launcher. As CDPR representatives stated:
“We originally planned to make this big announcement during our REDstreams tomorrow, but let's just say we found something on the RED Launcher that we didn't expect to see yet.” - CDPR
With the new DLC, CDPR will update the game's system requirements. The developers will drop support for:
- Windows 10
- Hard disk drives (HDD)
- DirectX 11 (DX11) technology
The new minimum specs will require Windows 11, an SSD, and DX12. These changes take effect with the next game update. As the developers explained:
“We need to update the system requirements to ensure stable performance and compatibility in the future.” - CDPR
Production on The Witcher 4 is ongoing, with a release not expected before 2027. CDPR's six-year plan also includes the launch of a fifth and sixth installment in the franchise. Meanwhile, the studio has permanently halted new content for Cyberpunk 2077, and its sequel will not arrive before 2030, according to CDPR joint CEO Michał Nowakowski.
The announcement of new DLC for The Witcher 3 underscores CDPR's commitment to expanding its most successful franchise, likely pleasing fans who have waited years for fresh content. The system requirement updates also reflect the developers' drive to deliver modern graphics and performance, crucial for keeping the game relevant amid advancing technology. Given the roadmap for future series entries, CDPR continues to solidify its standing in the gaming market.
