Leave due to the birth of a child for military personnel

Military personnel can arrange leave due to the birth of a child by utilizing several legislative norms. According to Article 10-1 of the Law 'On the Legal and Social Protection of Military Personnel and Their Families', the birth of a child is grounds for family-related leave lasting up to 10 calendar days. For participants in hostilities or veterans of military service, an additional 10-day family-related leave is provided with full financial support, resulting in a total of up to 20 days of leave.

Rules for granting leave

Commanders may also grant leave without financial support for up to 15 days per year for family or other valid reasons. In this case, travel time to the vacation spot and back is not included in the duration of family-related leave. For the annual basic leave, up to two days one way is allotted for travel.

The military personnel needs to submit a report to the unit commander and provide documents confirming the birth of the child. Lawyer Olena Dudchenko explained the types of leave available during martial law and how to maximize the opportunities provided by law.

This information is important for military personnel facing new family circumstances during service. Considering the difficult situation in the country, the ability to obtain leave due to the birth of a child can significantly ease the adaptation of military personnel to changes in their personal lives, as well as provide support to their families during this difficult time. The lawyer's explanation emphasizes the importance of knowing one’s rights and possibilities, which allows military personnel to effectively plan their leaves and make the most of legislative norms.
