Until 1988, he held the position of chief conductor at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theatre in Moscow and taught at the Moscow State Institute of Musical Pedagogy named after the Gnesins from 1978 to 1988. From 1993, Kozhukhar was a professor at the Kyiv Conservatory, and from 1989 to 2012, he was the principal conductor of the National Opera of Ukraine. Throughout his career, Volodymyr Kozhukhar received numerous state awards, including the title of People's Artist of Ukraine on August 19, 1993, the Order of Merit III Class (March 23, 2001), the Order of Merit II Class (August 18, 2006), and the Order of Merit I Class (March 26, 2016).
