Ukraine to Implement Scheduled Power Outages Starting February 18, 2026
New Energy Sector Measures Announced
According to Главком: Beginning February 18, 2026, Ukraine will introduce scheduled electricity outages and power capacity limits for industrial consumers. This decision is a direct response to the severe damage inflicted on the nation's energy infrastructure by Russian missile and drone attacks, which have critically undermined the stability of the power grid. These attacks have created a long-term energy deficit, forcing the government to implement rationing measures while also rolling out support for citizens and businesses.
Financial Aid and Energy Support Packages
The Cabinet of Ministers is establishing a financial assistance mechanism for citizens forced to relocate due to emergencies. This program will provide one-time, interest-free loans to help with household setup in a new location. Furthermore, starting February 2, entrepreneurs can access a special government energy support package, which includes:
- Payments of up to 15,000 hryvnias to individual entrepreneurs;
- Zero-interest loans for energy equipment.
To ensure oversight of the power cuts, the State Energy Supervision body will intensify its monitoring activities. Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal has issued instructions to conduct appropriate inspections. In light of these new measures, Ukrenergo advises consumers to check the official websites of their regional power distribution companies (oblenergos) for specific outage schedules and durations, and to use electricity sparingly when it is available. The situation within the energy system remains fluid, making it crucial to stay informed of the latest schedules.
The implementation of scheduled power outages is a critical step toward stabilizing Ukraine's energy system amid the ongoing attacks on its infrastructure.
