Ukraine Observes Workplace Safety Day

According to Главком: On April 28, Ukraine marks its Day of Occupational Safety, aligning with the World Day for Safety and Health at Work organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO). Officially established in Ukraine in 2006, this observance aims to raise awareness about the critical importance of workplace safety. Against this backdrop, it is worth examining the current state of the labor market in the occupational safety field, particularly the salary levels of professionals in this sector.

Average Pay for Safety Professionals

As of April 2026, the average monthly salary for an occupational safety specialist in Ukraine stands at 25,000 UAH-a 19% increase compared to April of the previous year. These figures are based on an analysis of 173 job vacancies. Salaries in this field range from 12,000 to 44,000 UAH. For context, the average salary in February 2025 was 20,000 UAH, meaning the annual growth amounts to 5,000 UAH. In Kyiv, the average pay for such specialists reaches 27,500 UAH, reflecting a 10% rise year-over-year. However, regional growth outpaces the capital, with salaries there ranging from 14,000 to 20,000 UAH and climbing by 19%.

Several factors drive this notable wage increase:

  • 67% of businesses report difficulties in hiring staff, pointing to a clear shortage of qualified personnel in this field.
  • Legislative changes that tighten accountability for workplace safety and introduce new pay transparency rules are also shaping the market.
  • Growing demand for skilled engineers willing to operate under heightened risk conditions plays a significant role.
  • Since the start of 2026, the minimum wage has been raised to 8,647 UAH, which may further influence overall compensation levels in the industry.

Additionally, the number of job vacancies across Ukraine’s labor market increased by 13% in 2026. Salary gaps between entry-level positions and top management can be as wide as three to four times-ranging from 14,000 UAH to 62,000 UAH. The highest recorded pay in Kyiv is 45,651 UAH, with the upper limit of offers in the capital reaching 62,000 UAH. Overall, these trends point to positive developments in the occupational safety labor market, though challenges such as workforce shortages and the need for further reforms remain pressing.

Ukraine’s Day of Occupational Safety serves as a vital reminder of the need to ensure workplace security. The rising average salaries for specialists in this area may reflect growing attention to safety issues, but persistent challenges like staff shortages demand proactive measures from both businesses and the state. Continued legislative updates and reforms could help further improve the labor market for occupational safety professionals.

As the demand for safety professionals continues to rise, it’s important to also consider the trends affecting other related fields. For instance, HR specialists in Ukraine have also seen significant salary adjustments this year, reflecting broader shifts in the labor market that may influence various sectors, including occupational safety. Understanding these trends can provide a more comprehensive view of employment conditions across industries.
