Salaries for university teachers suggested to be significantly increased
In Ukraine, the salaries of university teachers may rise significantly. The idea of an increase was proposed by the head of the parliamentary Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy, Danilo Hetmantsev. According to him, this will help stop the outflow of professionals from higher education.
Hetmantsev proposed to raise salaries for university teachers
According to Hetmantsev, many teachers currently have to moonlight or leave for abroad due to low wages. As a result, universities are losing young specialists and the quality of education is deteriorating.
«When the salary is low, teachers either leave or work outside their profession. Young researchers do not see the point in staying, while students lack the motivation to start a career», emphasized the MP.
The politician explained that together with the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, they submitted proposals to the state budget-2026, which provide for fair and transparent wage rates. The size of salaries is proposed to be tied to the qualification, title and experience of the teacher.
New salaries for university teachers
Base salaries without bonuses may be:
-
assistant / lecturer — 30,000 UAH
-
senior lecturer — 33,000 UAH
-
associate professor — 36,300 UAH
-
professor — 39,930 UAH
Additional payments for academic degree, scientific title and work experience are planned to be added to these amounts. According to Hetmantsev, the model has already been calculated for the state budget and is ready for implementation.
He is convinced that such a reform will not only increase the motivation of educators, but also give a boost to the development of universities and scientific activities in the regions.
«The goal is simple: to retain and return people to higher education, as well as to develop innovations through transparent and fair salaries», summarized the MP.
Earlier we wrote that the Rada explained why the increase in teachers' salaries is being postponed.
