Zelenskyy Details European Talks: Pressuring Russia and Addressing Odesa Attack Fallout
Ukrainian President's Address
According to ХВИЛЯ: In an address on January 27, 2026, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on security discussions with European leaders, focusing on increasing pressure on Russia. The talks also covered the consequences of recent Russian strikes on Odesa, Kharkiv, and western Ukraine. With the war now in its 1434th day, Ukrainian leadership continues to pursue avenues for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Discussions with European Leaders
Zelenskyy held negotiations with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, and Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer. The central topics of these discussions were:
- security guarantees for Ukraine;
- commitments for post-war reconstruction;
- potential pathways to end the war.
“The harder things are for Russia, the closer peace becomes,” Zelenskyy emphasized, underscoring the necessity of sustained pressure on the aggressor state.
Russia's latest assaults on Ukrainian cities have posed a severe threat to civilians. In Odesa, the enemy launched 52 attack drones, most targeting civilian infrastructure, including the 'Privoz' market area. This attack killed three people, with nearly 50 injured seeking medical aid. A strike on Kharkiv's energy system using multiple launch rocket systems was also recorded. Gas infrastructure in western Ukraine was damaged, and recovery efforts are ongoing at all attack sites. These attacks highlight the ongoing toll on Ukraine's population and economy.
“Everyone understands this is Russia's war. The responsibility to end it is also Russia's. And the pressure on Russia must continue,” the President added.
President Zelenskyy's negotiations with European leaders signal a reinvigoration of international efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, now in its fifth year. Calls for heightened pressure on Russia and discussions on security guarantees for Ukraine underscore the critical role of sustained international support amid escalating enemy aggression. The recent attacks on Ukrainian cities only reinforce the urgent need for measures to protect civilians and restore war-damaged infrastructure.
