Zelenskyy Holds Emergency Energy Meeting, Identifies Most Vulnerable Regions
Addressing the Stability of Ukraine's Power Grid
According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy convened an emergency meeting on energy security on January 19, 2026, to discuss stabilizing the national power grid amid freezing temperatures and ongoing Russian attacks. The session outlined key priorities for restoring the country's damaged energy infrastructure. This meeting underscores the severe strain on Ukraine's utilities, which have been a primary target for Russian forces since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.
The most critical power supply issues are currently in the Kyiv region, as well as in the Kharkiv, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts. Zelenskyy noted that repair operations are underway nationwide, emphasizing the urgent need for measures to improve energy delivery to the population.

The President specifically highlighted the following areas as needing particular attention:
- Kyiv and the surrounding region
- Kharkiv and the surrounding region
- Zaporizhzhia
- Dnipropetrovsk Oblast (including the cities of Dnipro and Kryvyi Rih)
- Chernihiv and the surrounding region
- Sumy Oblast
- Odesa and the surrounding region
He stressed the vital importance of ensuring energy stability in these regions and thanked international partners providing tangible assistance to Ukraine in this effort.
Furthermore, Zelenskyy stated that specific tasks have been assigned to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) to address problems within the energy sector. These steps are aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the energy system and ensuring a reliable electricity supply in the face of persistent challenges.
The situation in Ukraine's energy sector remains critically important, especially during winter and under constant threat from Russian aggression. Identifying priority regions for the repair and restoration of energy infrastructure demonstrates the government's attempt to respond swiftly to emerging crises.
