People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak stated that after the increase in electricity tariffs in 2024, Energoatom could have hidden tens of billions of hryvnias in profit through financial reporting. According to him, part of the funds were not reported as profit due to a sharp increase in depreciation costs.

Zheleznyak linked the rise in tariffs to Energoatom's profits

According to the deputy, the government raised the electricity tariff for the population from 2.64 UAH to 4.32 UAH per kW·h in 2024.

Zheleznyak claims that this allowed Energoatom to significantly reduce costs within the PSO mechanism, which compensates for the difference between the market price of electricity and the tariff for the population.

«The tariffs were raised for Energoatom to compensate less for the difference,» the MP stated.

He also referred to publications by Forbes and the company's financial reporting, which mentioned a possible increase in the company's income following the tariff increase.

The MP stated about hiding profits through depreciation

Zheleznyak claims that the company allegedly increased depreciation costs to not show real profits in the financial reporting.

According to him, in 2024, Energoatom's depreciation expenses increased by almost 89% - to 23.3 billion UAH.

The MP stated that due to this, the company's profit officially amounted to only 1.3 billion UAH, although actual revenues could have been significantly higher.

Zheleznyak also reported that criminal proceedings had been registered in NABU regarding these episodes.

In the video, the deputy repeatedly criticized the Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko and Energoatom's management, accusing them of the opaque use of funds after the increase in tariffs.

In 2024, the increase in electricity tariffs was explained by the need to restore and protect energy infrastructure following Russian attacks.

For Ukrainians, this discussion means a new wave of disputes surrounding electricity tariffs and the use of funds by state energy companies.

Earlier, Zheleznyak reported on the details of a lawsuit against him by businessman Timur Mindich. The case concerns the protection of honor, dignity, and business reputation due to public statements regarding corruption investigations.
