Aeroflot subjected to a large-scale cyberattack: hackers explained their motives
According to glavcom.ua: The Russian airline 'Aeroflot' faced a serious failure in the operation of its information systems. On July 28, more than 40 flights were canceled due to an attack by hacker groups Silent Crow and 'Cyber Partisans'. A representative of the 'Belarusian Cyber Partisans', Yuliana Shemetovets, claimed responsibility for this attack.
Shemetovets explained that their goal was to demonstrate to Russians the 'cost of the war' that Putin's regime is waging. In this way, they aimed to hit the Russian regime financially, forcing it to spend funds on restoring systems instead of military actions.
As a result of the attack, thousands of passengers faced cancellations and rescheduling of flights, creating a difficult situation. This cyberattack may also be related to a recent failure in the operations of three major airports in Russia. The investigation continues, including the hacking of document management software SharePoint from Microsoft Corp.
The cyber partisans' claims of killings and land by Russians may expose them to the risk of discrediting and compromising before the public, as no evidence has currently been found to support these allegations. However, the cancellation of flights by a well-known airline due to a cyberattack indicates the seriousness of the problem and the threat to cybersecurity in the aviation sector.
