Prices for vegetables have fallen: what is happening with the cost of potatoes, tomatoes, and cucumbers
On July 6, a rapid decrease in the prices of most main vegetables was observed in the Ukrainian market. The main reason for this, according to analysts, was the seasonal increase in the supply of early vegetables and the simultaneous activation of harvesting works by several producers.
The price of young potatoes fell the most, decreasing by 75%, from 65-90 UAH/kg to 15-22 UAH/kg. Beets also significantly decreased in price (by up to 40%), dropping to 15-20 UAH/kg, and new harvest onions (by up to 37%), which now cost 14-25 UAH/kg.
Cucumbers are now available in greenhouses, with prices dropping by 33% to 15-30 UAH/kg. Tomatoes have also decreased by about 25%, with wholesale prices ranging from 55-85 UAH/kg. However, retail prices for tomatoes vary: at 'Novus', the price is 72.99 UAH/kg, while at 'Auchan' it is 118.60 UAH/kg.
Prices for fruits and vegetables in Ukraine
Sweet peppers have risen in price by 33%, now costing between 100 and 160 UAH/kg. Zucchini has also increased in price - from 10-15 UAH/kg to 18-20 UAH/kg, while cauliflower has risen from 30-40 UAH/kg to 45 UAH/kg. Dill has also jumped in price by 70% and now costs 50-85 UAH/kg.
Future forecasts
Experts predict that the decrease in prices for main vegetables, such as cucumbers, tomatoes, young potatoes, and onions, will continue in the next decade of July. However, it is worth noting that a significant decrease in fruit prices is not expected due to poor yields of stone fruits caused by spring frosts. Overall, analysts indicate that the current decline in vegetable prices corresponds to summer trends, although this year it started with a certain delay due to unfavorable weather conditions in the spring.
The decrease in vegetable prices in the Ukrainian market is explained by the seasonal increase in the supply of early vegetables and the activity of producers who began harvesting simultaneously. Prices for some vegetables have fallen by up to 75%, but experts predict that fruit prices may not increase due to poor yields of certain crops.
