Ukrainian Anti-Corruption Agency Charges Head of Military Medical Board Over $85,000 Apartment
Head of Military Medical Board Faces Corruption Charges
According to НАЗК: The State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) has formally notified the head of the non-staff permanent garrison military medical commission of Ukraine's State Border Guard Service of suspicion for filing a false asset declaration for 2023. This action follows a comprehensive audit conducted by the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NAZK).
Investigators allege that during the reporting period, the official purchased an apartment valued at 3.3 million Ukrainian hryvnias (approximately $85,000). Crucially, the origin of 2.7 million hryvnias (about $69,500) used for this purchase could not be verified. The declaration also reportedly undervalued the property by 1.8 million hryvnias (roughly $46,000), a direct violation of Ukrainian law.
Pre-Trial Investigation Underway
The pre-trial investigation is being supervised by the Kyiv Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Central Region. This case is part of a broader, ongoing effort to enforce transparency among public officials, a key condition for Ukraine's international partnerships and EU accession process.
The formal suspicion against the head of the military medical commission signals a continued push by Ukrainian law enforcement to combat corruption within state institutions.
The detection of false information in the declaration underscores the critical importance of financial transparency for public officials. Such scrutiny is vital for rebuilding public trust in state institutions. The outcome of this case may influence the future tactics of Ukraine's anti-corruption bodies.
