Heating System Repairs Underway in Kyiv

According to Кулеба: In the wake of recent attacks, Kyiv is working to restore its central heating system. A total of 166 emergency repair crews, comprising 847 specialists, are carrying out urgent work in severe winter conditions. The most challenging situation is in the Desnianskyi district, specifically the Troieshchyna area, where temporary heating shelters have been set up for residents. These attacks on critical infrastructure highlight the ongoing vulnerability of Ukrainian cities during the winter.

To address the extensive damage, additional teams from Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) and specialists from other regions of Ukraine have been mobilized to assist. Support has come from:

  • Zaporizhzhia
  • Cherkasy
  • Odesa
  • Lviv
  • Rivne
  • Kyiv Oblast
  • other regions

Repair efforts are currently focused on 1,331 apartment buildings. The work involves thawing frozen heating pipes, replacing damaged valves and sections of the thermal network, and bleeding air from the system.

The specialists on these crews include welders, track workers, construction workers, and engineers. The absence of electricity in some areas has forced crews to rely on generators, complicating the repair process. Despite these obstacles, teams continue their work to restore heat to Kyiv's residents.

Restoring Kyiv's heating supply is critically important for ensuring livable conditions for residents, especially during the winter months.

The mobilization of experts from across Ukraine demonstrates national solidarity and a readiness to provide mutual aid during difficult times. These efforts also underscore the heavy reliance of urban infrastructure on stable energy supplies, emphasizing the importance of protecting critical facilities during military conflict.
