Ex-Wife of Ukrainian MP Levochkin Alleges Stalking and Threats
Artist Zinaida Kubar's Car Vandalized
According to Главком: Artist Zinaida Kubar, the former wife of Ukrainian Member of Parliament Serhiy Levochkin, has reported that her car was vandalized near her home at midnight. The vehicle, which she had used for seven years, sustained damage, prompting Kubar to call the police. She emphasized the car's significance, noting it was integral to her volunteer work, including expeditions to the Chernobyl Polissia zone.
“This car was a part of my life. It served my volunteer activities, and it was the vehicle I used for expeditions to the Chernobyl Polissia zone.” – Zinaida Kubar
Kubar has further accused Serhiy Levochkin of stalking and making threats. This follows a previous police report she filed in January, alleging domestic violence and psychological terror by the MP.
“Of course, material things can be restored, but it hurts because of the very act of destruction, because of someone's willingness to destroy what once served good.” – Zinaida Kubar
Kubar also claims that Levochkin, who served as head of the Presidential Administration under Viktor Yanukovych, is influencing decisions regarding the military posting of her current partner, a serviceman. “It is very painful for me to write this, but I have grounds to state publicly: decisions regarding the place of service of the serviceman with whom I am in a relationship are made under Levochkin's influence,” she stated.
Political Context and Public Reaction
Serhiy Levochkin was elected as an MP in 2019 from the 'Opposition Platform - For Life' party, listed at number five. He left for Venice just days before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and has traveled in and out of the country since. From the start of 2022 until May 2023, Levochkin missed 40% of parliamentary votes and did not attend a single session of the Verkhovna Rada in 2022, raising questions about his commitment to his parliamentary duties during the war.
In a further allegation, Kubar stated that Levochkin sent intimate videos of her, recorded without her consent during their marriage, to her current husband, calling it an 'incredible baseness'. “I cannot imagine how a normal person does such a thing,” she concluded.
The incident has sparked significant media attention and public discussion, extending beyond the personal conflict to touch on issues of domestic abuse and the potential misuse of power by political figures. Given Kubar's prior accusations, this case may lead to further investigation and debate concerning violence against women in Ukraine.
