Drought threatens the Western Balkan region
According to glavcom.ua: The Western Balkan region is experiencing extremely dry weather. The intense heat gripping Europe due to the African anticyclone complicates life for locals and creates problems for agriculture and electricity supply. This is reported by Euronews, citing 'Glavkom'.
Temperatures in central Albania have reached 40 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists warned that no rain is forecasted until September. Due to a lack of precipitation, rivers in the country have almost dried up. The government is already providing assistance to farmers through irrigation systems. The Albanian authorities completed a project to divert water from the Mati River for the irrigation of 40 square kilometers of agricultural land.
The Serbian State Meteorological Institute confirmed that 'extreme drought' is affecting the harvest in the country, and water levels in rivers and lakes have dropped.
Large and small cities across Albania are also feeling the shortage of drinking water. In Kosovo, an open swimming pool was closed due to water scarcity. Gërmia Park, where the pool is located, is known for its beauty and unique location among hills and mountains, which helps secure its water resources.
Drought in the Western Balkan region significantly complicates life for the local population and leads to serious problems in agriculture and drinking water supply. Regional governments are taking measures to assist farmers and establish irrigation systems, but additional difficulties are expected due to the lack of anticipated rainfall.
