Metinvest Mining and Metallurgical Group Expands 'Free Waves' Program

According to Главком: The 'Free Waves' program, a swimming-based initiative for the psychophysiological rehabilitation of veterans, is being expanded by the Metinvest Group. Developed by swimmer Denys Sylantiev, the program launched in July 2024 and has already directed approximately UAH 4.4 million in funding. Free sessions are currently held in pools in Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, and Kamianske, with over 400 veterans and active military personnel having participated to date. This initiative is part of a broader corporate effort to support those who have served during a period of ongoing conflict.

Future Plans for Growth

Organizers plan to increase the number of participating pools to six, including adding two more locations in Zaporizhzhia. They also aim to host a competition bringing together participants from all three cities. The program's core curriculum consists of 16 sessions featuring a blend of physical and psychological exercises. For participant accessibility, all pools are equipped with immersion lifts, and the Kamianske facility has an indoor lift installed.

Tetiana Petruk, a Metinvest representative, added: 'We are helping defenders regain their self-confidence and become part of an active life again. Concurrently, we support military families, prepare our teams for the return of demobilized colleagues, and assist communities in the regions where our enterprises operate.'

According to company data, roughly 300 people have undergone rehabilitation in Zaporizhzhia, 87 in Kryvyi Rih, and 15 in Kamianske. Metinvest has also received two accolades at the International Brilliance Awards in London, including the Brilliance Award in the 'Corporate Wellbeing' category. The company reports that it accounts for nearly a third of all veterans who have returned to work at large Ukrainian businesses, supported in part by its broader 'Steel Force' veteran support initiative.

The expansion of the 'Free Waves' program marks a significant step in aiding veterans' transition back to civilian life after combat. Programs focused on improving the physical and psychological well-being of service members are critically important during and after wartime. Metinvest's support underscores the role corporate responsibility can play in fostering stability and development within the communities where it operates.
