New Restrictions Imposed in Crimea

According to Главком: The occupation administration in Crimea has enacted a series of fresh restrictions affecting sporting events and the movement of people across the peninsula. Olga Torubarova, the so-called sports minister of the Crimean occupation government, signed an order canceling all children’s sports competitions and training sessions until September 1. The directive halts all educational and training activities for individuals under 18 and cancels championships, cups, and other tournaments. Additionally, athletes are prohibited from leaving the peninsula until further notice.

Artek Camp Struggles and Curfew Imposed

Meanwhile, the Artek children’s camp in occupied Crimea has faced disruptions following a series of attacks, with some children being denied entry and certain sessions potentially canceled. The occupation authorities have also introduced a curfew and shut down ferry services to Russia. Fuel sales in Crimea are banned on June 22 and 23, with refueling permitted only for emergency service vehicles that support city infrastructure.

Olga Torubarova: 'These measures are aimed solely at ensuring the safety of our children, athletes, and all participants in the sports process. Use this temporary period for methodological, organizational, and documentation work.'

In response, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense announced the closure of the beach season in Crimea and issued a grim forecast for tourists.

Amid these developments, Ukrainian defense forces have struck air defense systems, oil depots, and gas stations in Crimea, highlighting the escalating military situation on the peninsula.

The newly imposed restrictions underscore growing tensions in Crimea, likely linked to ongoing military operations and security concerns in the region. The bans on sports events and children’s travel could severely impact the social life of residents and the development of youth athletics. These actions by the occupation authorities may represent an attempt to manage the situation amid increasing Ukrainian military activity.

As the situation in Crimea continues to deteriorate, the impact of these new restrictions on children's sports is compounded by the increasing military actions in the region.
