The 'Trap' on the Road: Drivers Warned About Fines for 'Incorrect' Spare Tire
Ukrainian drivers should be prepared for the fact that the police are now strictly monitoring not only the main tires but also the spare wheel. According to the new rules, even if the spare tire seems unfit after five years of non-use, the car owner may receive a fine. This 'unexpected turn' can be catastrophic when an accident occurs due to poor grip on the road.
Police cite Article 121 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. The penalty for a damaged or unfit 'spare tire' may range from 340 to 510 hryvnias. There is also the possibility of sending the vehicle to a tow lot, which will incur additional costs for the owner.
Legal experts confirm that the requirements for the spare tire are as strict as those for the main tires. If the spare tire is expired or has lost its elasticity, the owner can expect a fine from the police. Therefore, taking care of the spare tire, storing it properly, and replacing it in a timely manner is an important component of safe driving.
The police's creative approach to road safety includes checking not only the main tires but also the spare wheel. Drivers should immediately pay attention to the condition of the spare tire, as its malfunction can be costly both in terms of fines and accidents due to poor grip on the road. So, it’s better to check the tires in advance than to regret lost opportunities later.
