Ryanair cancels 40 routes to Spain: which flights will cease
The budget airline Ryanair plans to cut the number of routes to Spain due to a conflict with local airport operator Aena. The story about excessive fees being charged to the airline has circulated online, reports The Olive Press.
Starting January 1st next year, Ryanair will drop routes to Tenerife North, Vigo, Jerez de la Frontera, and Valladolid. They will also reduce flights to airports in Santiago de Compostela, Zaragoza, Santander, Asturias, and Vitoria.
At the same time, they plan to increase the number of flights to Palma, Malaga, and Alicante-Elche.
The company also does not rule out the possibility of halting aircraft purchases from Boeing if prices rise due to new tariffs imposed by the U.S. government under Donald Trump.
The announcement of the cancellation of routes to Spain by Ryanair is a reaction to the conflict with the local airport operator Aena over fees. The airline will reduce the number of flights to certain cities and regions of Spain but will increase them to other popular destinations in the country. De facto, this may affect passengers' choices, but it is still unclear how it will impact competition in the air travel market in Spain.
