Ferrari Luce Electric Supercar Draws Harsh Criticism

According to Главком: Italy’s transport minister Matteo Salvini, former Ferrari chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, and centrist opposition deputy Carlo Calenda have all publicly slammed the newly unveiled Ferrari Luce-the brand’s first fully electric supercar. Priced at €550,000, the vehicle is being marketed as the most comfortable Ferrari ever built. The development of the Luce was a collaborative effort with former Apple chief designer Jony Ive. This marks a major shift for the legendary automaker as it enters the EV era.

Salvini commented on the debut: 'This new car looks like anything but a real Ferrari.'

Montezemolo, who led Ferrari for more than two decades, voiced his disappointment, stating that 'the company risks destroying its own legend, and this electric car does not deserve to wear the Prancing Horse badge at all.' Calenda also expressed skepticism about the model.

On Tuesday, May 26, Ferrari’s stock price dropped by over 8%, reflecting the market’s negative reaction to the Luce’s unveiling. The car, presented in a light blue finish, has the potential to mark a new chapter in the brand’s history-despite the widespread backlash it has received.

Other Ferrari Models and Their Stories

In related news, other Ferrari models have also made headlines. In Dubai, an exclusive Ferrari SF90 Stradale-worth around one million dollars-was recently crashed. The driver was a young Ukrainian entrepreneur, Alexander Slobozhenko, whose business is linked to online casinos. Meanwhile, in Ukraine’s city of Odesa, a customized Ferrari 458 Italia coupe was spotted. Modified by the tuning shop Prior Design, this car is the only one of its kind in the country. Its upgrades include:

  • a new front end with enlarged air intakes,
  • a carbon fiber body kit,
  • and a rear spoiler.

Ultimately, the Ferrari Luce’s debut represents not only a major step toward electrification for the company but also a flashpoint of criticism from influential figures in Italy. The controversy highlights the growing tension between luxury automotive traditions and the technological trends reshaping the industry. As one of the most iconic brands in the world, Ferrari now finds itself at a crossroads, needing to balance innovation with preserving its heritage. The market’s reaction also suggests that consumers may not yet be ready to embrace radical changes-even when tied to environmental initiatives.
