Over 350,000 Ukrainians Register for the 2026 National Multi-Subject Test
2026 National Multi-Subject Test Registration Opens
According to Главком: Ukraine’s Education Minister, Oksen Lisovyi, has announced that more than 350,000 individuals have signed up for the 2026 National Multi-Subject Test (NMT). Among the applicants is the oldest candidate, aged 73. Registration numbers have been climbing for three consecutive years, with approximately 30,000 applications submitted by Ukrainians currently living abroad for this testing session.
Main NMT Session and Key Updates
The main NMT session began on May 20 and will run until June 25. This year, over 355,000 participants have registered for the main session-43,000 more than last year. Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science has approved new university admission rules for 2026, eliminating mandatory motivation letters. Additionally, Ukrainian universities will now recognize the results of certain European exams as an alternative to the NMT.
It is worth noting that the permission for men aged 18 to 22 to travel abroad has not caused a critical student exodus. At the same time, there is growing demand for universities in:
- Zhytomyr
- Lutsk
- Ivano-Frankivsk
- Lviv
- Uzhhorod
Overall, Ukraine’s education system is showing resilience and continued youth interest in pursuing higher education, despite the country’s ongoing challenges.
The rising number of National Multi-Subject Test participants reflects stability and a strong interest in higher education in Ukraine, even amid a difficult socio-economic situation. - Oksen Lisovyi
Changes to admission rules, particularly the removal of motivation letters, could simplify the process for applicants and potentially boost future registration numbers. The trend toward recognizing European exams is also significant, opening new pathways for students planning to study in Ukraine.
The increasing interest in the National Multi-Subject Test is evident, particularly when comparing registration numbers to previous years. For instance, over 355,000 candidates participated in the 2023 model, indicating a consistent upward trend in students' commitment to higher education. This momentum suggests that the changes in admission policies may further encourage prospective students to engage with the testing process.
