Over 471,000 Ukrainians Have Left Germany

According to ХВИЛЯ: Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, more than 471,000 Ukrainians have departed Germany. Official figures show that as of January 31, 2026, over 471,000 individuals who arrived from Ukraine had left the Federal Republic of Germany. Meanwhile, as of February 7, 2026, Germany's Central Register of Foreigners recorded 1.157 million Ukrainians holding temporary protection status. This ongoing movement reflects the fluid nature of the refugee situation in Europe.

Statistics on Ukrainian Refugees

Women constitute the majority of registered Ukrainians, numbering approximately 672,000. Minors also represent a significant portion, with about 305,000 individuals. The number of male refugees is around 484,000. Notably, 85,266 registered persons with temporary protection were men aged 18 to 26. This increase is linked to a Ukrainian government decision in late August 2025, which permitted free departure for men aged 18 to 22. Following this policy change, the number of men in this age group in Germany rose sharply.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz has raised concerns about this situation and called on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to take appropriate measures. Consequently, the dynamics of Ukrainian refugee arrivals and departures from Germany remain a current topic of discussion.

The high number of Ukrainians leaving Germany indicates a desire to return home or seek new opportunities elsewhere. At the same time, the substantial number who remain suggests an extended stay abroad and a continued reliance on the support they receive in Germany.
