More than 50% of Ukrainian refugees are employed in Germany: study results
In Germany, an increase in the number of Ukrainians working in the country has been recorded. According to the German Federal Institute for Population Research (BIB), this figure has tripled over the past three years.
Researchers note that in the summer of 2022, at the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 16% of refugees in Germany were employed. However, by 2025, the number of employed Ukrainians is already at 51%. The head of the research group, Andreas Ette, reported that many Ukrainians have managed to find work after completing integration and language courses.
The study involved Ukrainian refugees who began to be surveyed in 2022 every six months. In 2024, among the respondents, refugees who later received asylum in Germany appeared. The institute notes that besides the improvement in the employment system for Ukrainians in Germany, they have also begun to enjoy their jobs.
Increase in job satisfaction among Ukrainians in Germany
Researchers stated that since 2023, the number of Ukrainians aged 20-50 who claimed to be satisfied or very satisfied with their jobs rose from 87% to 94%. BIB also found that the most qualified Ukrainians arrived in Germany during the first wave of refugees at the beginning of the invasion. According to experts, over time, the average educational level of refugees from Ukraine has decreased.
In recent years, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of Ukrainians working in Germany and their job satisfaction. This indicates successful integration of Ukrainians into employment and positive perception of work among them.
