Ukrainian Security Service Captures Russian Spy Within Naval Drone Unit

Russian Informant Apprehended

According to Главком: Ukraine's SBU security service has detained a member of the Naval Forces' unmanned systems brigade who was acting as a Russian informant. According to the SBU, the individual was preparing to hand over the geolocations of bases, storage coordinates, and operational routes for maritime drones, including the Sea Baby and Magura models. He has been formally notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 114-2 of Ukraine's Criminal Code.

The arrest occurred as the informant was finalizing coordinates for an impending Russian missile strike. During searches, law enforcement seized a smartphone containing classified information. The suspect is now in custody as the investigation continues. Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code pertains to the unauthorized dissemination of information regarding the deployment of Ukraine's Armed Forces under martial law.

Advanced Technologies in Ukraine's Arsenal

The SBU also highlighted the new generation of Sea Baby maritime drones, which have already been tested in successful missions in the Black Sea. These unmanned vessels were responsible for the third strike on the Crimean Bridge. New modifications of the drones, funded through the United24 platform, are capable of:

• covering distances exceeding 1500 km;
• carrying payloads of up to 2000 kg;

The upgraded drones are equipped with enhanced engines and modern navigation systems.

Furthermore, Ukraine has developed an unmanned surface vessel capable of carrying multiple fiber-optic drones in drop compartments. This system is considered unique globally, underscoring Ukraine's technological advancement in unmanned warfare. These naval drones have become a critical asymmetric asset for Ukraine, which lacks a traditional naval fleet.

The apprehension of a serviceman attempting to pass military intelligence to Russian special services demonstrates the SBU's active efforts to counter hostile informants during the war.
