Ukrainian Auto Insurance Payouts Surge 41% in 2025: A Breakdown of the Figures
Sharp Increase in Ukrainian Auto Accident Insurance Payouts
According to Главком: Insurance payouts for road traffic accidents in Ukraine saw a substantial rise throughout the 2025 calendar year. Under compulsory motor third-party liability (MTPL) policies, insurers settled a total of 150,982 claims, disbursing over UAH 6.8 billion to victims. This represents a 6.24% increase in the number of claims and a significant 41.4% jump in the total payout amount compared to the previous year. This trend highlights growing financial pressures on the insurance sector amid broader economic shifts.
Leading Insurance Providers by Payout Volume
The top-performing companies in terms of settled claims and total compensation were:
- TAS Insurance Company, which handled 23,735 claims amounting to UAH 1.1 billion;
- Oranta Insurance Company, with 21,369 claims totalling UAH 857.9 million;
- Knyazha Vienna Insurance Group, settling 16,139 claims worth UAH 706.5 million.
These rising costs for insurers coincide with notable changes in Ukraine's vehicle market. The share of recently imported used cars in the secondary market grew by 77%, a 24% increase from 2024 levels. Furthermore, a Value-Added Tax (VAT) rebate on imported electric vehicles is scheduled to be reinstated starting January 1, 2026. These factors point to a revitalized automotive market and escalating financial liabilities for insurance firms.
The surge in insurance payouts in Ukraine signals heightened activity in the automotive sector. This could stem from both an increased number of vehicles on the roads and improved driver awareness regarding insurance coverage.
The marked growth in the share of newly imported used cars may also indicate a recovery in domestic economic activity, which directly impacts both the automotive and insurance service markets. The impending return of the VAT rebate for electric vehicles is likely to provide further stimulus, as EVs gain popularity among Ukrainian consumers.
