In Chernihiv, private carriers proposed to completely abandon cash in route buses and switch exclusively to cashless payments. This was reported by Suspilne.

Cashless payments in Chernihiv: carriers' initiative

The head of the Chernihiv MVA, Dmytro Bryzhynskyi, stated that this proposal was made during a meeting on February 17. According to him, carriers associate cash payments with numerous violations and abuses.

“One of the proposals from the carriers is to completely abandon cash payments. Because, according to them, there are very many violations associated with this, there are abuses both by conductors and drivers. We will discuss this,” Bryzhynskyi noted.

The head of the MVA instructed the head of the city transport department, Oleksandr Ryzho, to collect financial calculations from each carrier within five days. In particular, they must provide:

  • data on the enterprises' expenses;
  • information about losses;
  • explanations regarding the use of community funds;
  • the structure of income and expenditures.

Carriers agreed to submit reports under personal signature.

Conflict with carriers in Chernihiv: tariffs and losses

The initiative for cashless payments emerged against the backdrop of escalating tensions regarding tariffs. On February 12, Bryzhynskyi stated that private companies demand almost a twofold increase in the cost of travel and threaten to stop transportation. He called them “extremely brazen marauders” and appealed to law enforcement agencies to prevent the deterioration of the socio-political situation in the border city.

On February 11, the head of the MVA reported that over three years, private carriers received 260 million UAH from the community budget for updating the vehicle fleet. However, he noted that no company had purchased new vehicles.

Starting from March 1, LLC “Epitrans”, which services routes No. 20, 22, 29, and 31, will cease operations in Chernihiv. The company’s deputy director, Oleksandr Shkabura, stated that over two months, the enterprise incurred 5 million UAH in losses and did not receive compensation for transporting beneficiaries.

The issue of a complete transition to cashless payments is currently under discussion.

Let us remind you, in Khmelnytskyi, public transport will only allow electronic payment for travel.
