Ukraine Cuts Rent to $0.03 Annually for State Property Used to House War Displaced
Streamlined Process for Housing Displaced Persons
According to Мін. Економіки: The Ukrainian government has simplified the procedure for making state and municipal property available to internally displaced persons (IDPs). The annual rent for such properties is now set at a symbolic rate of just 1 hryvnia (approximately $0.03 USD) per rental unit. This measure is designed to alleviate the housing crisis for those forced to flee their homes due to the ongoing war with Russia.
Eligibility for the New Preferential Terms
These new preferential rental terms will also be accessible to public and charitable organizations that provide support to IDPs. Properties available for rent under this scheme include a variety of currently underutilized facilities, such as:
- sanatoriums
- boarding houses
- dormitories
- residential apartments
- other real estate assets not currently used for the core operations of their managing bodies
This initiative is part of broader government efforts to aid citizens impacted by the conflict and to improve their living conditions during this challenging period. By easing access to public property, authorities aim to provide more temporary housing, which can help facilitate the social integration and adaptation of displaced families. The policy addresses a critical need, as millions of Ukrainians remain displaced within the country's borders.
