According to Главком: An international team of researchers has released a new study focusing on the dietary habits of the dinosaur species Maiasaura peeblesorum. Published in the journal Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, the findings reveal that juvenile members of this species consumed soft, nutrient-rich foods like fruits and other plants. In contrast, adult dinosaurs ate tougher plant material with higher fiber content.

The research is based on an analysis of fossilized teeth from Maiasaura peeblesorum, which lived approximately 75 to 80 million years ago. Scientists discovered that the teeth of young Maiasaura showed more evidence of crushing soft food, while adult teeth displayed wear patterns from chewing harder vegetation. Study author John Hunter commented:

“We provide evidence that this behavior likely extends far beyond the origin of birds, possibly to the origin of dinosaurs.” - John Hunter

New Dinosaur Track Discoveries

In addition, 70 new dinosaur tracks were uncovered in Texas State Park (USA), dating back roughly 110 million years. These three-toed footprints were attributed to Acrocanthosaurus, a dinosaur standing 4.6 meters tall. Larger tracks belonged to Sauroposeidon, which reached 18 meters in height and weighed 44 tons. These fresh finds will help deepen understanding of dinosaur diversity and their ecological roles in ancient times.

The examination of feeding behaviors in Maiasaura peeblesorum and the new Texas track discoveries highlight the importance of studying paleoecology to grasp the evolution and adaptive strategies of these prehistoric creatures. The differences in diet between young and adult individuals may point to complex ecological interactions within dinosaur environments. Furthermore, the newly found tracks indicate a wide variety of species and their environmental adaptations, giving scientists more data to reconstruct Earth’s past.
