Zheleznyak explained why the Ukraine recovery conference was not a breakthrough
Ukraine Recovery Conference 2026 in Gdansk, Poland, brought several important agreements for Ukraine, but most of the announced financial decisions had been prepared before the conference began. Such an assessment was given by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, analyzing the results of the event on his YouTube channel "Iron MP".
What results of the recovery conference did Zheleznyak mention
According to the deputy, the conference provided a useful platform for communication between Ukrainian and international businesses, as well as donors. About a thousand companies participated in the event, a third of which represented Ukraine.
At the same time, Zheleznyak emphasized that most of the loud statements made during the conference are not directly its result. In particular, this refers to the first tranche of 3.2 billion euros within the new EU loan, financing for drone production, agreements with the World Bank, and another revision of the IMF program. According to him, these decisions were agreed upon earlier, and the conference merely served as a platform for their official announcement.
Why the conference was intended to be canceled
Zheleznyak also stated that a few days before the event, the Office of the President allegedly considered the possibility of postponing or even canceling the conference due to a political scandal between Ukraine and Poland.
According to him, after discussions, this idea was abandoned as international partners, business representatives, and European institutions had already arrived in Gdansk. As a result, Ukraine was represented at the event by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, which the deputy believes was the right decision.
The main problem, according to the deputy
Yaroslav Zheleznyak identified the lack of a stable state recovery strategy as the biggest problem. He noted that almost at every international conference, Ukraine presents a new vision, changes responsible officials, and approaches to project implementation.
In his opinion, international partners expect more consistency, predictability, and real reforms, particularly in combating corruption, creating clear rules for business, and improving the investment climate. According to the deputy, this should be the main condition for attracting large-scale investments in the future recovery of the country.
Earlier, Zheleznyak stated about the lack of funds for military salaries: the budget may be revised in the fall.
