Scammers are trying to deceive PrivatBank clients over the phone

PrivatBank has warned about an increase in the number of phone scammers who impersonate bank employees to defraud clients. The scammers pay special attention to pension and salary card holders, using clever manipulations.

According to the bank's information, scammers use practices such as caller ID spoofing and create a sense of urgency, making their deceptions effective against trusting citizens.

The scam scheme has a specific structure. Scammers make calls using fake numbers—on the phone screen it may display 'PrivatBank 3700' or other official bank contacts. During the conversation, the fraudsters report suspicious activity on the account or threaten to block the card.

'The goal of such calls is simple—to make a person disclose confidential information or provide access to the Privat24 mobile banking,' the bank explains.

Principles of protection against scammers

PrivatBank representatives strongly refuse to provide confidential information over the phone. 'A bank employee will never ask for your PIN code, full card number, security codes from SMS, or your login and password for Privat24 during a phone conversation,' they emphasize.

The institution's experts note: any request for such information over the phone is a clear sign of fraud, even if the interlocutor sounds convincing.

Technological component of the threat

A particular danger is the use of caller ID spoofing by scammers. This method allows displaying any number on the victim's screen, including official bank contacts or even names from the phone book.

'Even if you see a familiar number or the official name of the bank on the screen, it can still be a forgery,' warn the specialists at PrivatBank.

Algorithm for protection against scammers

PrivatBank advises clients to follow certain rules when receiving suspicious calls. If you receive a call that worries you, it is better to end the conversation and call the bank's hotline yourself to verify the information.

The bank emphasizes three main security principles: under no circumstances disclose confidential information over the phone, ignore any attempts at blackmail or intimidation, and always verify information through the bank's official communication channels.

Summary: PrivatBank warns about the activation of telephone scammers who defraud clients by impersonating bank representatives. The fraudsters use manipulations and technologies to obtain clients' confidential data and access to their accounts. Clients are advised to adhere to security principles, avoiding the disclosure of confidential information over the phone and verifying all information through official communication channels with the bank.
