Activists in pajamas protest at train stations across Europe: demand for more night trains
Europeans demand more night trains
According to glavcom.ua: Today, Europeans organized a protest at train stations to call for increased investment in the European night train network. The reason is the rapid decline of international rail transport, which makes people increasingly choose aviation, negatively impacting the climate. This was reported by the portal euronews.com referencing 'Glavkom'.
Today, December 12, disruptions are expected at dozens of major train stations.
Decline of night trains in Europe
Today, travelers have far fewer options for traveling by night trains than in the 1970s, as old routes are gradually being closed.
Three climate organizations announced a Europe-wide action in response to the rapid decline of international rail transport. Even the Austrian national railway ÖBB has already confirmed the cancellation of the night train from Paris to Vienna due to the cessation of funding from France.
Protest and action at train stations
The action was organized by Back-on-Track Europe, Stay Grounded Network, and Aterra. Participants came to the stations in pajamas, holding banners and dancing to music from DJs for Climate Action in the format of a 'silent disco'. Activists interact with passengers, asking where they would like to travel by night train.
This action is merely an artistic expression that will not cause harm
There are also discussions about the potential dismantling of railways in Latvia leading to the border with Russia, but separate conclusions on this matter will be released later.
