Hennadii Viter on Potap's Involvement in 'Music Platform'

According to Главком: Hennadii Viter, the godfather of singer Nastia Kamenskykh and producer of the show 'Music Platform', has refused to let rapper Potap perform on his program. The decision stems from Potap’s failure to take a clear stance on Russia's war in Ukraine. Viter stressed the importance of language policy during wartime, pointing out that artists who sing in Russian abroad raise serious concerns for him.

“We are living in a state of war. I believe language is a powerful tool that must be upheld and demonstrated to other nations. When our artists go abroad and perform in Russian, I have very big questions. I love Nastia dearly-she is my relative, and I have never hidden that. I am ready for her to perform solo because she has a hit that I like,” said Hennadii Viter.

At the same time, he confirmed he has no objection to Nastia Kamenskykh performing solo on 'Music Platform'. It is worth noting that Potap (Oleksii Potapenko) and Nastia Kamenskykh are married, though they recently announced the end of their long-term relationship. Both artists posted about their divorce in Russian, which has raised further questions about their position amid the war in Ukraine.

Additionally, Potap and Kamenskykh announced the reunion of their duo 'Potap and Nastia' after a nine-year hiatus, but noted they would not perform in Ukraine. This decision has sparked mixed reactions in society, particularly from colleagues in the music industry such as Hennadii Viter.

“But Potap-definitely not. For me, he is a 'red flag' because he does not express his position,” Viter added, emphasizing his stance on the matter.

Hennadii Viter’s comments highlight the complex situation Ukrainian artists face during the war. Many are caught between commercial interests and the need for a clear socio-political stance. Discussions about language policy and attitudes toward the war in Ukraine are becoming increasingly relevant, as artists must consider not only their audience but also the cultural and political contexts in which they operate.

As the music industry grapples with the ongoing war in Ukraine, the controversy surrounding artists who continue to perform in Russian remains a hot topic. Notably, figures like Potap, Loboda, and Vynnyk have ignited debates over their language choices.
