A new international night train is being launched in Europe, which will serve as an alternative to air travel for long journeys. Starting June 2026, the Belgian-Dutch operator European Sleeper will open a route connecting five countries and passing through key cities in Western and Southern Europe. This is reported by VisitUkraine.

The new service will be part of a broader trend of developing night trains in the EU, which are positioned as a more comfortable and environmentally friendly way to travel. Passengers are offered a night journey without transfers, allowing them to combine sleep with traveling between countries.

New Night Train Across Europe: Route from Amsterdam to Milan

According to the operator's plan, trains will depart from Amsterdam and Brussels and will head directly to Milan without transfers. Some trains will start from the Netherlands and Belgium, then merge in Cologne and continue through the Alps on one train. The route will traverse Germany and Switzerland, covering five countries.

The preliminary planned stops include:

  • Amsterdam or Brussels

  • Cologne

  • Bern

  • Brig

  • Domodossola

  • Stresa

  • Milan.

This format allows for reaching Italy from Northern Europe in just one night, without using air transportation.

Night Train Schedule and Operator's Plans

According to preliminary information, trains from Amsterdam and Brussels will depart in the evening on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Return trains from Milan are planned to start on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The final schedule and service details will be announced closer to the route's launch.

The launch of the new service is seen as another step towards forming a pan-European network of night trains that enables long-distance travel without airports and additional transfers.

It is worth noting that Poland has launched an international night train EN Carpatia.
