Drunk drivers face car confiscation for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: details of new sanctions
According to hvylya.net: The Ukrainian patrol police is exploring the possibility of taking strict measures against drunk drivers, including the confiscation of their cars for the benefit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. One of the proposed ideas is to impose fines of up to 51,000 UAH, revoke driving licenses, and confiscate cars for driving under the influence during martial law.
Future plans include the introduction of other radical measures, including fines for aggressive driving, exceeding noise limits, and a speed threshold that cannot be avoided to escape fines. A bill on mandatory towing of cars to a parking lot for driving under the influence has already been developed by the police.
'All these measures are aimed at increasing the sense of inevitable punishment. International experience confirms that this is the best way to discipline,' said Oleksii Biloshytskyi.
Control over elderly drivers may be intensified
The Verkhovna Rada is considering a bill that envisages enhanced control over drivers aged over 65. This initiative is based on the statistics of road traffic accidents and includes mandatory medical examinations and psychological tests.
There are already age restrictions in the legislation for obtaining a driver's license, as well as updated tests on traffic rules for future drivers.
The Ukrainian patrol police is actively discussing the implementation of strict measures against drunk drivers, including the confiscation of cars for the benefit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The introduction of fines, revocation of licenses, and other decisive measures to punish offenders is being proposed. There are also discussions about enhancing control over elderly drivers to reduce the number of traffic accidents among this category of drivers.
