In the Netherlands, contributions for Ukrainians for housing will increase: who will pay more

Dutch rules for refugees from Ukraine
В Нідерландах зростуть виплати на житло для українських біженців: хто понесе додаткові витрати.

The Dutch government announced from the first days of October that they are raising contributions for Ukrainians who are under temporary protection. In their language, this sounds like an increase in mandatory payments. Starting this month, adults will have to spend €244.22 on utilities, or no more than €488.44 for the whole family, for the housing provided in the municipality. Those receiving basic food will pay €252.18 per person per month. A family of two adults will pay a maximum of €992.80.

'These new rules are based on the income of other categories of asylum seekers and individuals with income,' the Dutch government explained.

A bit earlier, the tariffs were lower - €105 for one adult or €210 for a family, if only paying for utilities.

Conditions for Relief

The government has set a threshold at 115% of the basic assistance standard. If income does not exceed this threshold, the municipality may reduce the payment amount or exempt a person from payment.

To other asylum seekers and less well-off local residents, the Dutch government explained that these changes were made to ensure fair distribution of costs and reduce imbalance. Ukrainians will receive the first bills with the new amounts in November of this year.

The increase in contributions for Ukrainians under temporary protection in the Netherlands has become part of the government's strategy for cost distribution and ensuring fairness among various categories of the population. The new tariffs in municipalities will take effect very soon.
