Born on September 1, 1934, in Horlivka (Donetsk region, Ukraine), he gained popularity due to his achievements in handball both at the club and international levels.
Anatoly Yevtyshenko was a champion of the USSR and a two-time silver medalist. He led the 'MAI' club to championship victories six times (1968, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1974, 1975) and also his team won bronze medals seven times (1969, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1987). Under his guidance, in 1968, the student team of the USSR became world champions. From 1969 to 1990, Yevtyshenko headed the USSR national team, which under his leadership became Olympic champions at the Montreal 1976 and Seoul 1988 Olympics, as well as winning silver at the 1980 Olympics. Additionally, the USSR team became world champions in 1982 and silver medalists at the world championships in 1978 and 1990.
Legacy and tragic events
After the collapse of the USSR, Anatoly Yevtyshenko continued his career in Germany, where he worked with the 'Milbertsgofen' club. He also achieved success in Kuwait, leading the men's national team to victory in the Asian Championship, which allowed them to qualify for the 1996 Olympics. In Austria, Yevtyshenko worked with the 'Hypo Niederosterreich' club and the country's women's national team.
At the same time, Ukrainian athlete Vitaliy Rymaruk was killed on the front lines. He was the champion of Ukraine among youth and a medalist in the adult championship. Rymaruk served as an officer in the 1st combat group of the 4th special operations group of the National Guard of Ukraine and was killed in the Pokrovsky direction (Donetsk region). These tragic events occur against the backdrop of the loss of outstanding individuals who made significant contributions to sports and the country.
The death of Anatoly Yevtyshenko is a significant loss for Ukrainian sports, as he not only achieved great success but also became an inspiration for many athletes. His contribution to the development of handball and the nurturing of new generations of athletes will remain in the memory of many. At the same time, the death of Vitaliy Rymaruk highlights the tragic consequences of the war, which takes young lives and talents that promised great achievements in sports.
