Russia in Aviation Disaster: Only 1 Aircraft Manufactured in 2025 Out of 15 Planned
In 2025, Russia faced a serious aviation crisis due to breaches in aircraft production plans. This information was published by the Reuters agency.
Customers received only one aircraft out of 15 planned due to sanctions and high credit rates, which complicated investments. Russian airlines have more than 700 aircraft, but they are mostly Airbus and Boeing models, for the maintenance of which the country relies on imported spare parts.
'There is no component base, no technologies, no production capacities, no engineers. Creating all this from scratch will take years, if not decades' - noted a Reuters source.
Moreover, Russia faces challenges with domestic air transport due to its vast territory and time zones. This aviation crisis reflects a general decline in the industry, leading to bankruptcies of companies in various sectors.
Localization Problem and Import Dependency
Aircraft manufacturing in Russia attempted to localize, but the country remains dependent on foreign suppliers. According to customs statistics, in 2024, parts worth at least $300 thousand were imported through intermediaries in Turkey, China, Kyrgyzstan, and the UAE, including components from France, the USA, and the UK.
Due to the aircraft shortage, Moscow had to involve airlines from Central Asia for domestic flights. The crisis in the Russian aviation industry is becoming part of the overall economic downturn, which has a serious impact on the country.
The news describes the problems of the Russian aviation industry due to the breach of aircraft production plans, low investments, and dependence on imported parts. This situation nearly led to a crisis in the air transport sector in Russia, which also reflected the overall decline in the industry.
