Arthur Osipyan Detained in Yerevan

According to Главком: Police in Yerevan have arrested Arthur Osipyan, the head of the opposition Revolutionary Party of Artsakh, after a verbal confrontation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Osipyan has been charged with hooliganism and remanded in custody for two months. The incident occurred during a campaign meeting where Pashinyan was engaging with voters, and Osipyan accused the prime minister of inefficient and uncontrolled spending of billions of dollars.

Osipyan alleged that funds allocated to the former separatist regime in Karabakh ended up in the pockets of a local clan. In response, Pashinyan emotionally denied the accusations, asserting that financial flows were under state control. This led to a mutual exchange of heated remarks, during which Pashinyan sharply demanded that Osipyan leave the venue.

Armenia's Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed Osipyan's detention. Following the incident, the politician was taken to the Arabkir police station in Yerevan, where he was charged with hooliganism. A court subsequently ordered his arrest for two months.

Social Media Situation

Separately, during a meeting with the Kremlin leader, Pashinyan commented on the state of social media, stating:

“In our country, social media, for example, is 100% free-there are no restrictions whatsoever. And many citizens believe this is too much.”

This stands in contrast to Russian President Vladimir Putin's remarks about the need to shut down mobile internet in certain regions of Russia to protect against drone attacks and raids.

The arrest of Arthur Osipyan underscores the heightened tensions within Armenia's political landscape, especially during the ongoing election campaign. His allegations of corruption and government inefficiency may reflect growing public discontent, which could influence the outcome of the upcoming elections. The situation also highlights the contrasting approaches of Armenia and Russia regarding information control and freedom of speech, potentially affecting bilateral relations moving forward.
