In Kyiv, fraudsters will be prosecuted for stealing 1.8 million hryvnias from elderly people for laptop repairs
Fraud in Kyiv: court for two 'computer masters'
According to Прокуратура Київ: In Kyiv, two 'computer masters' are accused of fraud. They claimed to have repaired 4 laptops of elderly Kyiv residents for 1.8 million hryvnias.
The prosecutors of the Kyiv city prosecutor's office have sent an indictment to the court regarding two residents of Kyiv, aged 25 and 26. According to the investigation, they offered computer repair services and antivirus installation to elderly people, and then demanded between 8 to 11 thousand US dollars for these works.
During their work as 'at-home computer masters,' they tried to attract clients among elderly people by offering discounts for pensioners. One of them handled the repairs while the other distracted the client's attention. While performing the work, they issued inflated invoices that exceeded the real cost of services by hundreds of times.
‘Elderly people paid for the work with their savings in US dollars. The victims had no opportunity to consult about the cost or refuse the service.’
As a result of this scheme, the fraudsters extracted 'repaired' computers from four Kyiv residents amounting to nearly 1.8 million hryvnias.
The events of this news reflect a fraud scheme where young fraudsters abused the trust of elderly people, obtaining inflated payments for meager work. The court process will determine their responsibility for fraud and deception.
