Underground parking in Geneva could become a bunker: how it will save over 2000 people

Underground parking as a bunker
Гараж в Женеві може перетворитися на укриття: як це забезпечить безпеку понад 2000 осіб.

Innovative underground parking project in Geneva

According to Главком: In Geneva, engineer Christian Sinigaglia has developed a project for underground parking that can transform into a bunker for over two thousand people in emergencies. This innovative underground space will serve as an important element in ensuring safety in case of threats to the population.

The underground parking facility can accommodate over 2000 people, making it a significant resource in the event of an emergency. The project development is taking place against the backdrop of increasing demand for the inspection and modernization of bunkers, which has become particularly relevant since the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. In Ukraine, in particular, the first certified State Emergency Service mobile shelter has already been installed at 19 Myliutenka Street in Kyiv.

The capacity of bunkers in Switzerland

Bunkers in Switzerland, which include the new project in Geneva, are distinguished by their capacity. The country has about 370 thousand shelters that can accommodate more people than live in the country. The water tank capacity in these bunkers reaches 186 thousand liters. The water supplies will be sufficient for at least five days of autonomous living, which is critically important in the case of a prolonged emergency situation.

Thus, the new underground parking project in Geneva has the potential to become an important element of the civil protection system, providing safety and comfort for a large number of people in emergency circumstances.

The development of underground parking that can serve as a bunker corresponds to the modern security challenges that countries face worldwide. Given global conflicts and natural disasters, such innovative solutions may be crucial for protecting the population in critical situations. In the context of the growing relevance of shelters in Europe, this project could serve as an example for other cities seeking to improve their security infrastructure.
