Switzerland officially bans corporal punishment of children: what has changed
According to glavcom.ua: In Switzerland, the principle of non-violent upbringing of children has been officially enshrined in the Civil Code. The corresponding amendment was approved by the upper chamber of the country's parliament. 33 parliamentarians voted for this initiative, four against, and seven abstained. The aim of the changes is to prevent physical punishment of children in the upbringing process. In addition to the direct ban on violence, provisions have been included in the Civil Code to allow seeking help from specialized centers.
According to a study by the University of Freiburg, every 10th child in Switzerland has received a slap from their parents at least once. The organization 'Child Protection Switzerland' reports that one in five minors has been subjected to psychological abuse. In 2023, the country discussed enshrining this principle, citing international studies that show such legislative changes reduce the level of violence in families.
