New Language Ombudsman on Transcarpathia: why the Ukrainian language is absent there

Olena Ivanovska expressed concern about the linguistic situation in Transcarpathia, emphasizing that the Ukrainian language is gradually losing its position in the region, yielding to other languages, particularly those of neighboring countries. According to her, this poses serious challenges for the state language.

“This is just one example of the challenges faced by the state language. Transcarpathia was a special area of responsibility for my predecessor, and I haven't reached there yet. Unfortunately, 24 hours a day is not enough for full-fledged work,” emphasized Ivanovska.

The ombudsman stressed the need to expand the staff and functionality of the Secretariat to effectively address the issue of supporting the Ukrainian language, as currently only five representatives are working in this direction across the country.
